the commercial operator

About

I’m Chris Wilson. I’ve spent about fifteen years in commercial roles in tech. I founded Too Good To Go and grew it from nothing to teams of hundreds, was the first marketing hire at Futureplay through to its acquisition by Plarium, and now run the commercial side of Metaplay, which I joined when it was ten people building backend tech for the games industry.

For most of that career, getting things done meant relying on engineers to build the tools to do it. This past year that changed, and I’ve learned to build them myself. I’ve done the strategy and the team-building, and I still like to be the one shipping — and this is where I write about what that looks like in commercial work. Practically, and without the hype. If you’re in or around tech and trying to keep up while the ground moves, some of it might be useful.
